Writs

A WRIT is a written order by a court, commanding the party to whom it is addressed to perform or cease performing a specified act. A writ petition can only be filed against the State and any of its agencies and not against prite individuals or organisation.

Writs are issued by the Supreme Court/High Courts to enforce the fundamental rights of Indian citizens, guaranteed by the constitution. The power to issue writs is a provision under "Right to Constitutional Remedies".
